Attendance at Pre-School Education is optional and is aimed at children aged between three years and the age for entry into the 1st Cycle of Basic Education.

In Pre-School Education, existing vacancies in each educational establishment are filled in accordance with the priorities defined in article 10 of Normative Order 6/2018, of April 12, in its current wording.

Enrollment in the 1st Year of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education is mandatory for children who turn 6 years old by September 15th.

In Basic Education, existing vacancies in each educational establishment are filled by giving priority, successively, to students under the conditions defined in article 11 of Normative Order no. 6/2018, of April 12, in its current wording.

When registering, the person in charge of education must indicate, in order of preference, five educational or teaching establishments, whenever possible, which they intend to attend.

The guardian may enroll his/her student in the education or teaching establishment that he/she considers most appropriate, however, when the education or teaching establishment desired by the guardian is not the one that serves the respective area of residence and this is also Once the desired training path is provided, the person in charge of education bears at his or her own expense the costs or additional costs that may result, particularly with the student's travel, unless the practice of the local authorities involved is different.

In exceptional situations provided for by law, the member of the Government responsible for the area of education may authorize, at the request of the person in charge of education, the anticipation or postponement of enrollment in the 1st year of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education, and the latter must present an application to the educational establishment attended by the child or to the establishment the child intends to attend, by email, by the last day to request enrollment for the school year immediately preceding the one desired.

Enrollment must be considered conditional, only becoming definitive when the process of distributing children and students among education and teaching establishments has been completed.

After the legal enrollment period has expired, the guardian must submit the application for enrollment at the school in their area of residence.

Enrollment refers to the first enrollment in Pre-School Education or in the compulsory education system (1st year of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education or any other year in the case of transfers of students from a foreign education system) .

Enrollment renewal operates automatically without the need to submit any request, with the process being ensured by education and teaching establishments.
