The Mafra School Group was approved by Order of the Regional Director of Education of Lisbon, on May 17, 2004, resulting from the verticalization of the former Mafra School Group and the School Group of the Parishes of Igreja Nova, Cheleiros and Alcainça with the Basic School of the 2nd and 3rd Cycles of Mafra, initially consisting of 21 education and teaching establishments.

At the present date, there are 9 education and teaching establishments belonging to this group of schools, as a result of the restructuring and requalification of the public school network in the municipality of Mafra, which cover Pre-School Education and Basic Education distributed throughout the Parish of Mafra , Union of Parishes of Igreja Nova and Cheleiros, Union of Parishes of Malveira and São Miguel de Alcainça and Union of Parishes of Azueira and Sobral da Abelheira.
