“ONE TREE, ONE FOREST” COMPETITION

The Association of Geography Teachers promoted the “One Tree, One Forest” competition, intending to awaken geographic curiosity, from the first years of schooling, as a promoter of education for citizenship and to learn about the biodiversity of the native Portuguese forest.

The winners of the national competition, in the 1st Level, were two students from Escola Básica de Mafra, Francisco Batalha and Henrique Galambas.

On November 9th, they went to Sertã, with the facilitating teacher, Graça Gonçalves, to present their work and receive the prize and participation diploma.

Within the scope of the Strategic Action Plan (PAE), the class carried out research work on the indigenous Portuguese forest and its importance in the conservation and preservation of nature.

This topic arose due to the fires that occurred in Portugal in 2017 and caused the destruction of thousands of hectares of forest and the death of many people.

These students accepted the challenge and the result was the work sent to the competition. In addition to the teacher's guidance, they also had the collaboration of their parents.

We congratulate these students, teachers and parents for the quality, creativity and commitment with which they carried out this challenge.
